Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania is an educational nonprofit that gives K-12 students the inspiration and preparedness to succeed in a global economy. JA offers numerous innovative programs - in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship – all designed to ignite the spark in young people to experience and realize the opportunities and realities of work and life in the 21st century. As expected of an organization that's reshaped academic standards on a nationwide scale, JA has been implementing the most effective precautionary methods for its students while facing the current health crisis. They contacted Germinator Pittsburgh and we brought our Bridgeville disinfecting service to help protect all the businesses and amenities at the JA BizTown program in South Fayette Township.
JA BizTown is one of the organization's most popular and innovative programs, designed to serve children between the ages of 4 and 6 as they apply their school lessons to real life situations. Inside a wide simulation space, elementary and middle school students get the chance to act as owners and/or consumers in any of the 19 companies built for the program, learning about a variety of trades and completing many of the tasks that sustain a community. Through this program, the children learn useful day-to-day skills, like business management, decision making, communication, creativity, teamwork, data interpretation, and more.
JA BizTown represents a valuable resource for the students of South Fayette Township. It is a highly interactive environment where children can nurture their individual skills while cooperating with others. Now, Junior Achievement has gone one step further to help ensure a clean and hygienic space for children, parents, and staff. They scheduled an appointment with Germinator Pittsburgh, and our field specialists set out to service JA BizTown with the most effective and thorough antimicrobial protection.
Germinator's Patent-Pending Process
The first step in our patent-pending process involves testing the surfaces for ATP using a luminometer to detect light that can come from cellular activity. This measurement immediately determines the level of clean on the surface.
We move on to applying Germinator's Genesis surface treatment. Genesis is a one-step cleaner and broad-spectrum sanitizer and disinfectant treatment that harnesses the power of HOCl (hypochlorous acid). Derived from naturally occurring minerals, Genesis not only eliminates odors at their source but kills a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and viruses including norovirus, rotavirus and adenovirus on hard, non-porous, environmental surfaces. It meets the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) germicidal spray standards for Hospital Grade Disinfection and is on the EPA N List of products determined to meet the criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. As a result, this treatment will eliminate bacteria and viruses that may reside in your environment without the use of harsh chemicals or fumes.
This is followed by Germinator's Shield, a water-based quaternary ammonium compound that imparts a durable bacteriostatic finish. It is EPA-registered as effective against the growth of mold, mildew, algae, and odor-causing bacteria. This application creates an invisible barrier that helps combat deterioration and discoloration and promotes freshness for up to three months.
The Genesis and Shield products are applied by using an electrostatic sprayer, which is the most efficient and effective means of delivering the products to the intended application sites. After having applied our surface treatment and protectant services, we retest the ATP levels to ensure the surfaces have achieved the intended results.
A Hygienic Space for Children to Thrive
Like all the other education centers in the country, JA had to put all its student programs on hold after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the US. JA's directive board recognized the importance of enhancing all protective measures in each of their facilities early on. Since then, they've put all their focus into creating a more hygienic space for children to come back to.
As the people of Pennsylvania started to settle into a new "normal," Junior Achievements begun preparations to reopen JA BizTown during the fall. Months of planning have gone into creating a hygienic environment where students, volunteers and staff can feel more secure. Director of Education Maura Teti describes the decision of contacting Germinator Pittsburgh as a major step in the attainment of this goal. "We immediately had a great connection with Germinator, they loved the space and wanted to do whatever it took to help us reopen," she states.
There's no way to quantify the importance of a clean and hygienic educational environment. Germinator developed its patent-pending method to provide communities across the country with an effective and thorough sanitizing and disinfecting method. As such, we understand the responsibility that comes with disinfecting and sanitizing each room, prop, and equipment that the students of JA will use for their lessons. As Teti aptly states: "We want to make sure that students, parents, and volunteers have greater peace of mind when visiting JA BizTown, so through the service that Germinator is providing, we are offering them a cleaner and more hygienic environment when they come to our space".
