Weekly COVID-19 Testing for Schools Announced in Pennsylvania

State health and education officials announced on August 16 that Pennsylvania will offer voluntary COVID-19 testing in K-12 schools, as a way of keeping the doors open for in-person learning despite a statewide resurgence of the coronavirus.

", weekly classroom testing will need school districts to opt in and parental approval. With the exception of Philadelphia, which has its own COVID-19 testing program, the statewide program will be available to all public and private schools in the state.
Students who do not participate will face no consequences, according to the Health Department.
The state announced the testing program in response to a dramatic increase in the number of infections and hospitalizations.
Every day, over 2,100 cases are being confirmed in Pennsylvania.
